Mudgeon Vean is situated in a superb location in an area of outstanding natural beauty with the rugged coastline of the Lizard Peninsula nearby, ideal for walkers and families alike through all the seasons.

The farm is bordered by a beautiful National Trust footpath to the Helford Estuary, offering the peace and tranquillity that has inspired many authors including Daphne du Maurier in her novel Frenchman’s Creek.

 

Nearby

Picturesqe Helford Village is only a 15min drive - here there is a pub beside the water, a cafe with Wi Fi, Sailing club and good village stores. Within walking distance is Gear farm Shop where you can buy Organic Pasties and some groceries.

The nearest village with pub, shop/PO, bus stop and Church is Mawgan about 2 miles.

 

106 0618Helston is the nearest town where there is a high street, banks, supermarkets, swimming pool, boating lake and play area, skate park, petrol station and public houses. Newtown St Martin has a public house and petrol station (diesel only) which sells groceries. Falmouth is about 30 mins drive and Truro with its lovely cathedral 45mins. Penzance has a Railway Station, shops and picturesque St Michaels Mount is approx 45mins drive.

At Mullion there is a riding stable and Poldu sandy beach. From here you can walk to Gunwalloe Church Cove where there is the ancient Church of St. Winwalloe on the beach. Coverack has a windsurfing school and some gift shops, grocery shop, public house and Church. There are coastal footpaths around the Lizard Peninsula where you may see basking sharks, seals, beautiful calm or stormy, wild seas. The Seal Sanctuary at Gweek is about a 15 minute drive and here you can watch feeding time and there may be some seals in the hospital.

Mullion Golf Course is approx 8 miles away.

 

Safe Sandy Beaches

Coverack

The Lizard has some of the most amazing safe sandy beaches, each with their own individual character. We are situated about 10- 15 mins by car, from beautiful St. Anthony where you can swim from the Helford River (which is tidal) There is a boat hire and lovely Church close by.

Kennack Sands and Coverack beaches are about 15-20mins by car. Kennack is always sandy with some rock pools to explore whilst Coverack is sandy when the tide is out, with rock pools and also the Fishing Harbour makes a good place to swim from the steps.

cadgwith 1013COther beaches about 20-30 mins drive are Praa Sands and Gunwalloe. Not forgetting the villages made famous by recent television programmes Doctor Martin was filmed in nearby Port Isaac, The Fisherman’s Apprentice with Monty Hall working along side the Cadgwith Fishing Fleet - how do they manage to get all their boats off the beach when there is a storm! You have to visit the village to believe it!!!

 

 

 

Culture and Activities for All

The Eden Centre at St Austel is about 1 hr dponies 0858Crive and well worth a visit, at St. Austell it is a must for those visiting Cornwall, don’t forget to look out for the biggest rainforest in captivity. Their regular Summer outdoor concerts have included in previous years Amy Winehouse and Lily Allen to name just a few and for 2012 the line up includes Tim Minchin, Seth Lakeman, Noah and the Whale.

English Heritage has an extensive range of properties including the legendary Tintagel Castle and its connection with King Arthur and Merlin. With Pendennis Castle in nearby Falmouth, and St. Mawes close by offering plenty of activities for all the family.

Cornwall has a long history and heritage for you to explore, everything from castles, fine houses and gardens to tin mining and smuggling, or you may wish to visit the many art and craft galleries that are available.

For the more active, Golf, Cycling, Surfing, Sailing and Horse Riding are all available close by, for the children there are also theme parks within easy reach.
